MICHIGAN Zoning Atlas
Academic researchers at the University of Michigan (A. Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning and the Graham Sustainability Institute) have started analyzing the Grand Rapids region (including Ottawa, Kent, and Muskegon counties) to jump-start the Michigan Zoning Atlas, with the partnership of Housing Next and the American Planning Association Michigan Chapter and the support of the Alan and Cynthia Berkshire Fund.

Michigan’s Statewide Housing Plan: A 2022 plan led by the Michigan State Housing and Development Authority is the state’s first collaborative statewide housing plan.
Grand Rapids, Kent County, and Ottawa County Housing Needs Assessments: 2020 and 2021 reports which document housing needs in the Grand Rapids area, the atlas pilot location.
Michigan Zoning Database: A database documenting the considerations of renewable energy within the 1,856 jurisdictions in the state, which our project is building on.
